A digital practice and rehearsal pack will be shared with you and your child via Google Drive.
Live Video Lessons through Google Meets
Requirements
To engage in live lessons over Google Meets, you will first need to fill out the appropriate permissions.
Requirements to conduct these one on one, online lessons include;
1. Written permission from a parent that their child can participate in a one on one, online lesson.
2. Written permission from a parent for these lessons to be recorded.
3. Students are not permitted to be in their bedrooms during these lessons.
4. Students are to be appropriately dressed as per non-uniform day guidelines.
Please fill out the following google forms giving permission acknowledging these conditions:
Once we receive confirmation of your response we will be able to continue your child’s instrumental music tuition through this platform.
Notification of Lesson Time
If the announcement is made that schools are moving to online learning in Term 2, Instrumental Music Timetables will be uploaded to the Performing Arts Blog and the St Luke’s Anglican School App. Teachers will then add a Google Calendar Invitation for the student’s recurring lesson time. Notification of this meeting will be sent to the student’s school email account. If your child is in Primary, this invitation will also be sent to the relevant parent.
Engaging with the Lesson
Step One: Teachers will send your child a google calendar invitation via email. This invitation will include a link to a Google Meet Session.
Step Two: 10 Minutes prior to the lesson your child will be sent a reminder email with the link to the Google Meet Session.
Step Three: At the start of the lesson time, click on the Google Meet link.
Step Four: Click on the green ‘Join Now’ button.
Step Five: You will need to ensure that you allow the computer to use your microphone and camera.
All going to plan, your child and their teacher will be able to engage in an online lesson. Teachers will wait on that session for 10 minutes. If the student does not join within 10 minutes and has not attempted to contact the teacher the lesson is considered offered.
As we all navigate engaging in lessons through this platform for the first time, we thank parents and students for your patience and consideration navigating any technical difficulties that we may encounter.
Absentee Guidelines
If your child is unable to attend their lesson for any reason, please notify the teacher at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled lesson time. If possible, the teacher will organise a different lesson time. Please be aware that teachers may have less flexibility to swap lesson times during remote learning periods.
Recorded rehearsal and practice videos with written feedback
Regardless of the form of lesson delivery your child will be allotted a time in the teacher’s timetable. During this lesson time the teacher will develop their rehearsal and practice videos, and review submitted student recordings. The student will be required to complete tasks during the week and email recordings of these tasks at least 24 hours prior to their next lessons.
The teacher and student expectations of this method of delivery is below.
Lesson Time: Teacher will prepare and record learning materials for the student.
During the Week: Students will access these materials, complete and record set materials and upload them to their shared Instrumental Music folder at least 24 hours prior to their next lesson time.
Lesson Time in the following week: Feedback from previous recordings and new learning materials will be shared.
This cycle will continue for the duration of the remote learning timeframe. If your child does not actively engage with the recorded materials and practices, your Instrumental Music Teacher will contact the parent as per the School’s Communication Policy.
Ensemble Rehearsals
Ensembles will still continue during periods of Remote Teaching. However, these sessions will look slightly different than our traditional rehearsals. Teachers will touch base with each ensemble on a weekly basis. These sessions will also be run through Google Meets and set up as an invitation to a calendar meeting just like their Instrumental Music Lessons. Each week the teacher will meet with the group to discuss which music students should be working on and whether or not recordings of parts are required. The music department is currently exploring options for ‘Couch Ensembles’ and these weekly meetings would go a long way in making this possible.
Rehearsal times are as follows:
Please note: Junior Concert Band, Senior Concert Band and Senior Orchestra will commence in Week 3. All other ensembles commence Week 1.
