Does my child need to attend a virtual roll call?
Yes in Primary, Roll Call will be daily at 8:30 am. In Middle/Senior School a roll will be marked each online lesson. The School believes this will assist students to remain in a good routine and get them actively learning in the morning.

What should my child be wearing for school?
Dressed in smart, casual attire, as per our Uniform Free day guidelines:

  • Shoulders must be covered. This must be a shirt with sleeves.
  • Midriffs will not be exposed
  • Short skirts and shorts will be worn with leggings
  • Clothing will not have offensive or inappropriate embellishments
  • Casual dress will not be mixed with school uniform

What programs will my child be using online?
The main portals will be: P-3 Seesaw, 4-6 Google Classrooms, 7-12 Canvas.

Do I need to have these programs on my own device as well?
Zoom and Google Remote Support are the only additional programs that may be required on a device.

My child has their device from school. Do I need to provide a printer and scanner at home?
Not necessarily - only if families prefer to print things. In Primary, printed content was provided in packs and additional ones will be made available at a later date, if required.

Do I get copied into work instructions for my child, e.g by email or Seesaw? How do I know what they should be doing each day? Daily work schedules will be communicated to students and parents through Seesaw/Google Classrooms/Canvas and may be emailed each day - especially for our little people.

Do I need to check my child’s work before it is submitted?
No, this is not required.

What hours should my child be working online?
No more than three hours of computer time per day.

Will my child receive a daily program for online lessons?
Yes, daily work schedules will be communicated to students and parents through Seesaw/Google Classrooms/Canvas, and if required by email.

Can my child be contacted by other children or parents without the teacher being aware?
No, not during normal school hours.

Can I contact my child’s teacher with questions, and how should I make contact?
Email teachers if you require clarification or assistance for your child’s learning. A reply will be received within 48 hours.

How should my child submit questions to their teacher?
On Seesaw, Google Classrooms, Canvas or email if required.

How is my child’s online behaviour and usage monitored?
Our Code of Conduct is expected during school hours. This is a team approach between the teachers and supervisors at home.

Will my child complete assessments?
Yes, this will depend upon age appropriate expectations. Refer to the online platforms for direct information for these specific requirements.

How do you know that my child’s work is their own?
We ask that parents support their child with their learning but not to complete it for them. This is a learning from home journey where teachers need to monitor your child’s learning.

Who do I contact if we have difficulty accessing programs?
IT Helpdesk: helpdesk@stlukes.qld.edu.au

Will the School/teacher check in with the parents to see how you are coping and what we are finding difficult?
Yes, Core/Pastoral Teachers will be in touch with families/students each week.

How can I fit in helping my child with their schoolwork while I am working from home?
Flexibility is the key to this answer: help where you can and do what you can. Providing a sense of structure will assist your child with navigating their day.

What if my child (or the supervising parent) is sick and can’t assist with learning from home?

If your child is sick, please contact the School to register their absence on:

P-6: primary-absentee@slasmail.com
7-12: secondary-absentee@slasmail.com
Once again for the supervising adult, flexibility is the key to this answer: help where you can and do what you can. Providing a sense of structure will assist your child with navigating their day.
